Venezia and Cittadella Seal Play Off Final Place

Last night, Venezia and Cittadella reached the Serie B play-off final, for a place in the top tier in Italian Football.

Lecce v Venezia

Vicenza went into Thursday night’s second leg with a 1-0 lead over Lecce. Venezia were away at Stadio Via del Mare, and managed a 1-1 draw, which was enough to take the side through 2-1 on aggregate.

Venezia took the lead at the end of the first half, when Mattia Aramu slotted away a penalty to his team a two-goal lead on aggregate. Lecce equalised on the night when Venezia goalkeeper Maenpaa palmed away a header, but Fabio Luccioni kept the ball in play and passed the ball across goal for his teammate Stefano Pettinari to score.

Lecce were given a penalty in the 80th minute, but Marco Mancosu blazed the ball over the bar.

AC Monza v Cittadella

Monza went into the game 3-0 down from the first leg. In the 58th minute, Mario Balotelli managed tapped the ball home from close range. In the 78th minute, individual brilliance from Marco D’Alessandro pulled the deficit to one. Although, Monza were unable to get a third goal and Cittadella advance to face Vicenza in the play-off final.

When is the final?

The final will be played over two legs. Cittadella will host the first leg on Sunday 23rd May and then Venezia will host the second leg on the 27th May.
