A Future Premier League Star?

On Wednesday night, Ivan Toney helped his Brentford side to a 3-1 victory away at Reading. He picked up two assists and scored after following up on a Sergi Canós shot, that was parried back into his path, which resulted in the forward’s 23rd Championship goal of the season.

Those that watched him at Peterborough, may not be surprised with Toney’s form, but the ease he has settled into Brentford and into the Championship is remarkable.

His form for Peterborough was impressive with 24 goals for the Posh last season. This season at a higher level, his form has been incredible. It is likely he will play in the Premier League next season, whether that is with Brentford or not.

This season he has scored 23 goals, with a goal conversion rate of 35%, which has made him the top scorer in the Championship. Toney is averaging a goal every 106 minutes.

Toney is also far from being solely a goal scorer, as his all-round game is impressive. Quite extraordinary is that he is also the man with the most assists in the Championship, with 9 assists so far this season in the league.

He is enjoying his football and has played 96.3% of Brentford’s total playing time this season, which shows how crucial he is to Thomas Frank’s side.

Glenn Murray currently has the most goals in a season in the Championship since it was rebranded with 30 for Watford in the 2012/13 season and Toney if he experiences no injuries should break that record with ease.

Ivan Toney will aim to guide Brentford to the Premier League and will be confident of continuing his amazing form.
