Women’s Champions League First Legs: What Happened?
On Sunday, the two first legs took place of the Women’s Champions League.
Barcelona travelled to Paris to face PSG. The game ended 1-1.
Barcelona took the lead in the 12th minute with Jenifer Hermoso heading home Aitana Bonmati’s cross. PSG equalised in the 21st minute, the corner drifted to the back post where Marie-Antionette Katoto headed the ball back across goal for Alana Cook to head the ball into the net from close range.
Barcelona has an away goal to take with them into the second leg.
In the other semi final Chelsea travelled to Germany to play Bayern Munich in the first leg, where Bayern Munich managed to win 2-1, thanks to goals from Sydney Lohman and Hanna Glas.
Bayern Munich took the lead when Chelsea’s goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger failed to deal with a cross and Sydney Lohman headed the ball into the net to put the German side ahead.
Chelsea equalised when Guro Reiten sent in a free kick from the left side to the far post where a defensive header from the Bayern defence struck Chelsea’s Melanie Leupolz and looped into the far corner. Leupolz did not know much about it, but for Chelsea they did not really care as they picked up a crucial away goal.
Hanna Glas won the game for Bayern Munich with a wonderful strike from distance. Glas advanced towards goal on the Bayern right side and from just outside the eighteen-yard box, chopped the ball onto her left foot and fired the ball into the top corner past a despairing Berger.
The second legs of both semi finals will take place next Sunday.
