Preview: The Manchester Derby
The second semi-final of the League Cup sees a Manchester derby take place at Old Trafford.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will want to win his first trophy as Manchester United manager, and the League Cup offers a good opportunity to do so.
Manchester City will want to retain the trophy and win the League Cup for the fourth successive season.
Manchester United won their first two games of the competition 3-0 against Luton and Brighton and Hove Albion. In the quarter-final, they won away at Everton 2-0 with Edison Cavani and Anthony Martial scoring.
Manchester City won against Bournemouth 2-1 and won 3-1 against Burnley to set up a quarter-final with Arsenal. Manchester City won at the Emirates 4-1 courtesy of goals from Gabriel Jesus, Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Aymeric Laporte.
Edison Cavani will miss the game as he serves the second match of his three-game suspension. Phil Jones and Marcus Rojo are long-term absentees, though Victor Lindelof could return to the squad following a back complaint.
Kyle Walker and Gabriel Jesus could both return after serving an isolation period following positive coronavirus tests. Manchester City will be without Ferran Torres, Ederson, Tommy Doyle and Eric Garcia. Nathan Ake and Aymeric Laporte are both doubts for the game.
The last fixture between the sides was a 0-0 draw in the Premier League on the 12th December.
Manchester United will want to continue their good form, which has seen them not lose in their last seven games. The likes of Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes will be important for the home side to advance to the final.
Manchester City are also in good form as they have not lost in eleven games and will look to the likes of De Bruyne and Sterling to guide them to another League Cup final.
