Chiesa Seals Juventus Cup Win

Juventus won their 14th Coppa Italia on Wednesday night with a 2-1 win over Atalanta. Goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Federico Chiesa helped Juventus to their second trophy this season to go with the Supercoppa Italiana they have already won.

Atalanta started the game promisingly and had chances early, but it was Juventus who took the lead when the ball was poked out to Kulusevski, who from just inside the 18-yard box curled a ball first time with his left foot into the far corner of Atalanta’s goal.

Atalanta equalised in the 41st minute. Freuler won the ball back in Juventus half and drove towards the box, where he laid the ball off Hateboer on the right win who pulled the ball back to Malinovskyi on the edge of the box. Malinovskyi controlled the ball and fired the ball past a despairing Buffoon.

Chiesa scored the winner in the 73rd minute, when he picked up the ball on the left wing and passed the ball to Kulusevski who was situated on the edge of the box. Chiesa received the ball back first time at which point he had picked up a position in the box. Chiesa controlled the ball with his right foot and scored with his left to get the decisive goal of the final.

The win gave Andrea Pirlo some relief in what a difficult season for the Juventus boss has been. The win meant Cristiano Ronaldo has won all domestic trophies in England, Spain, and Italy. It also, meant goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has won the Coppa Italia in three different decades, with wins in the 90s, 10s and now the 20s.

After the celebrations have concluded Juventus will turn their attention to trying to get a champions League place when the final round of Serie A fixtures takes place Sunday.
