Matchday three saw 12 goals across the six matches and all of the important action from the weekend’s fixtures will be covered in this round-up.
Bayer 04 Leverkusen 2-0 Turbine Potsdam
The weekend began with Bayer Leverkusen hosting Turbine Potsdam. The game remained goalless until the 78th minute, but it was the home side who broke the deadlock. Verena Wieder found herself one-on-one with Vanessa Fischer, and the Leverkusen forward calmly slotted the ball under the onrushing goalkeeper. The hosts sealed the win in stoppage time through Milena Nikolić whose delicate finish ensured the three points would go to Leverkusen who collected their second victory of the season.
Eintracht Frankfurt 4-0 1.FC Köln
Eintracht Frankfurt kept their 100% record in the league, with a resounding victory over Köln. In the 34th minute, the home side won the ball back in the opposition half and some superb passing culminated in Lara Prašnikar scoring her second goal of the season. In the second half, Myrthe Moorrees could do nothing to avoid putting the ball in her own net, and the hosts made it three when Camilla Küver’s precise cross found Shekiera Martinez alone in the area, and the Eintracht Frankfurt forward made no mistake from close range. Martinez scored her second of the game late on, latching on to Prašnikar’s through ball to poke home.
FC Bayern Munich 4-0 SC Freiburg
The current Frauen-Bundesliga champions made it three wins from three games, at home to Freiburg. Bayern took the lead after just three minutes when Lina Magull scored a wonderful look distance effort. The ball rolled to Magull 25-yards out and the midfielder powerfully struck the ball, which flew past Lena Nuding in the Freiburg goal. The home side doubled their lead in the 17th minute when Linda Dallman nodded Carolin Simon’s floated cross back across goal for Lea Schuller to tap the ball home. In the second half, Glódís Viggósdóttir headed home Hanna Glas’s teasing cross, and Schuller picked up a brace to seal a comfortable victory.
FC Carl Zeiss Jena 1-1 SV Werder Bremen
A draw in this clash ensured both sides picked up their first point of the season after the two teams had lost their opening two fixtures. The home side went into the interval with the lead after an incredible goal from Rita Schumacher, who cut in from the left and her unbelievable effort drifted over a despairing Lena Pauels. Werder Bremen equalised in the 72nd minute after Maja Sternad managed to wriggle into the area, to slide the ball across for Lina Hausicke to easily tap the ball into the net.
Vfl Wolfsburg 4-0 SC Sand
In the 37th minute, Jill Roord scored her first league goal for Wolfsburg after an attempted cross from the left, found the far corner, floating over Jasmin Pal in the Sand goal. Minutes later Wolfsburg managed to score their second just before half-time after Emily Evels poked the ball into her own net. In the second half, Ewa Pajor’s drilled cross found Svenja Huth, who kept her composure to control the ball and thunder it into the bottom corner. The scoring was completed in the 65th minute, Tabea Waßmuth picked out Sandra Starke who calmy finished.
SGS Essen 0-0 TSG Hoffenheim
Hoffenheim dropped their first points off the season in this contest. The two sides couldn’t find the net to avoid this one finishing in a goalless draw, but Essen had the best chances. Elisa Senß was sent off in the 75th minute after picking up a second yellow card, but the home side nearly won it a couple of minutes later, however, Vivien Endemann was denied by Martina Tufekovic. The result means both sides remain undefeated in the league this season.
