League Two Play Off Preview: Newport County v Forest Green Rovers

Newport will host Forest Green at 20:15 tonight in the first leg on the play-offs in League Two. The game will be played in front of 900 fans.

Newport have named the same squad for their last five games. Priestley Farquharson is available after a spell out.

Forest Green will be without Jamille Matt, Dan Sweeney and Elliot Whitehouse. Nicky Cadden could return, but the first leg may come too soon for the winger. Ebou Adams misses the game through suspension.


The last five games between the sides have seen two wins forForest Green Rovers and one win for Newport County. The games between the sides this season saw a 1-1 draw at The New Lawn Stadium and the game in February saw Forest Green win 2-0.


Newport are unbeaten in their last five games, with three of those games resulting in wins. Forest Green have won twice in their last five games, though they have only lost once in those games.

What Are They Saying?

Padraig Amond is looking forward to seeing the Amber Army back in the ground. He told the Newport County website “Having fans back in the ground will be great and we all saw what a difference they made to the FA Cup Final last weekend”.

Forest Green’s interim manager Jimmy Ball said that Forest Green are relishing the pressure of the play-offs. Ball told Forest Green’s website “Pressure at the end of the season means you’ve done well. We’re enjoying it and we’ll go and play like we have been and hopefully come out on top”.

Final Thoughts

Newport will be confident going into the game, with their form being exceptional, though Forest Green will pose a threat and will be looking to get a positive result to take back to The New Lawn.
